KIDS ACTIVITIES
For Kids...
The mission of the world's longest-running cigar box guitar festival is "make a joyful noise," and as part of that mission we aim to inspire youngsters throughout our community to make music.
Sunday, June 1 at The Orion
11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Cost: Free
Because cigar box guitars are traditionally made out of cigar boxes and other discarded materials, there will children’s hands-on activities focusing on a recycled theme as well as music focusing on the environment by Miss Calliope. Microwave Dave will use his musical genius to teach kids about the history of the blues in the interactive Junior Junk Jam where kids will get to play recycled instruments they’ve made. The Cigar Box Serenaders of New Orleans will round out the line-up with funk, soul and jazz all on 100% handmade, upcycled instruments including cigar box guitars, an upright bass made from a dresser drawer and a drum kit made from discards, including a plastic tub as a kick drum and trash can lid as a cymbal.
